Dow is a lonely boy whose father passed from liver cancer in 2024 and whose mother frequents the hospital and is therefore unable to take care of herself or the children. Dow has three older siblings. The oldest sister quit high school in order to start earning money. Dow's other brother and sister attend a boarding school and only return home on weekends. This leaves Dow mostly by himself alone at home. The four children rely on government welfare to survive. Dow faces significant physical and emotional challenges.
