The parents of Mwendwa are both alcoholics. They abandoned Mwendwa and his young sister in a market place leaving Mwendwa as the caregiver. Mwendwa was the bread winner of his sister. Mwendwa dropped out school to take care of his young sister. The parents were imprisoned for their negligence.
