In a tragic event, Raylan lost both his parents and became orphaned. Raylan now lives with his grandparents, who do not know how to respond to Raylan's questions about his parents. Both his grandparents are farmers with immensely meager incomes, so raising Raylan is difficult, yet even more difficult is alleviating the pain in Raylan's heart. Raylan studies very hard and is a good, thoughtful boy.
